Each player must have an updated eye and ear test before the season starts 3. Reward players who get to practice early by putting them first in batting practice or shooting drills. 4. Don’t overcoach and under-teach players. Don’t give them too much to digest at once. 5. Be proactive if you detect a parent is upset with you by calling them 1st. 6. Keep practices shorter rather than longer. 7. Practice what other coaches don’t practice enough of, such as baserunning, rebounding, and in football, special teams. 8. Never start practice unless there is a 2nd coach or parent there with you. 9. With practices, instill this formula: 2 skills drills and 1 fun drill. And repeat. 10. Coach up with age. At a point during the season, challenge your players by treating them like 11&12 year instead of their 9 & 10 age. 11. Each player must have their own water bottle with their name on it. This will be in addition to the team’s water jug. 12. Utilize assistant coaches during practices. 13. Create an “Opportunity Time” where players can come to practice 30 minutes early to work on different things. 14. Always have an end-of-year event. Call each player up and say a brief positive quality about them. 15.
